‘This City’s Local Italo Disco DJ Has A Crush On Me (Little Boots Discotheque Remix)’ by Sally Shapiro
Well considering you have the best smile in all of Italo Disco, I wouldn’t be so surprised, Sally.

Well considering you have the best smile in all of Italo Disco, I wouldn’t be so surprised, Sally.
‘Excommunication’ by Erkka
Neo-italo powerhouse French Express have once again chanced upon that rare electronic act that manages to sound at once both fastidiously retro and unerringly futurist. Erkka’s lucid, glass-sculpted waveforms glimmer like stalactites in a mineral cave, while his Helsinki-based credentials also suggests a strong connection or two to fellow Helsinki italo-revivalist Michael Cassette; both artists seem to have the same chilly, Nordic permafrost lodged in their bones.
‘Discofobia’ by Tino Fernández
Super frisky Spanish disco-boogie from 1983, via former child star Constantino Fernández Fernández. The main jazzy synth hook sounds a lot like a riff on Clio’s “Eyes”, though it was actually released a year earlier.
‘Kérdés önmagamhoz’ by Kati Kovács
This zany piece of cosmic Moroder pop from Hungarian disco queen Kati Kovács is the other. (via)
‘Als Es Passierte (Andreas Dorau Remix)’ by Paula
One of two euro disco obscurities I now can’t live without, thanks to Sternrekorder’s wonderfully illuminating mix of rare and esoteric synthpop made for the site Valerie Collective.
‘Chimera feat. Perturbator’ by Judge Bitch
Somewhere in the 2000 AD universe must reside a law enforcer who has taken it upon herself to take up the ultimate mantle of ‘Judge Bitch’ — possibly a woman who doesn’t take the job as seriously as she should; possibly someone who relishes in the costume and power more than the responsibility; possibly someone who was attracted to the tight-fitting body suits, power shoulders and gold chained regalia. A kind of Michelle Pfeiffer-in-Batman Returns of the Dredd universe if you will. Such is the impression I get from this menacing yet ultimately campy italo dirge, whose brooding, synth-laden lurch is intermittently leavened by the occasional silly hiss of “Chiiimerrraahh!”.

‘Best of the Best’ by Mitch Murder
In need of a motivational ’80s movie end credit theme pick-me-up? Mitch Murder’s spandexed italo synthfest is destined to bring out your inner Daniel LaRusso.
‘Isole vergini (Virginal Mystery)’ by Kiki Gaida
A forgotten, bubblegum italo-pop one-hit-wonder from 1987! I can find literally no other information about her, so I guess her virginity will forever remain a mystery.
‘Just Can’t Hide (Edit)’ by Raphael Top Secret
This inconspicuously cool italo Night Jam also. Would love to know who the original is by.
‘Symmetry - Themes For An Imaginary Film’ by Johnny Jewel
Not content with having a hand in one of the best soundtracks of the year in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, Johnny Jewel and his usual crew of Italians Do It Better collaborators have come up with this conceptual, two-hour, cinematic soundtrack, apparently three years in the making. Put succinctly by Jewel; “Over the span of thirty seven tracks, Symmetry embraces the elegance of European noir cut with a lean & violent American razor.”
Mirroring the mood of a sinister midnight cityscape circa 1982, you can expect lots of brooding italo, pulsating synths and icy atmospherics. The lengthy and in-depth description at the source is well worth reading. Wow.
‘Lointain (Muffin Remix)’ by Popular Computer
I bet this deliriously dynamic, italo-house re-imagining of the Parisian producer’s new single was originally conceived when someone accidentally inhaled a laser. IN SPACE.
