‘Falling’ by HAIM

It seems like they’ve fully latched onto the fact that their percussive pull is as palpably irrisistible as their blood-deep harmonies. This track is all tattle and tremor, interrupted by the occasional vocal outburst that echoes brightly against the jungle of battering drums. Their innate devotion to the groove almost tips the whole thing into the realm of funk. It may just be because I’ve been listening to it a lot lately, but the eighties studio sound makes me wonder if they’re also big fans of Peter Gabriel’s So album.
