‘Working’ by Warm Myth

The glassy-eyed romance at the heart of this song is cutesy and meek. You get a sense of precocious teens playing their emotions carefully, treating love (or, more likely, sex) less like a raging wildfire and more like an act heralding maturity, which is implied whenever singer Casey Mecija (of Ohbijou) indulges in deep-breath countdowns, or prudently picks lines that come off as vaguely virginal (“You got me ready and I’m willing, let’s do this right”) — all this conveyed through the safe, chaste confines of pillowy r’n’b-redux. It turns out one of the members is also responsible for the mysterious Canadian synthpop group D I A N A.
