Lucrecia Dalt Live at Micro MUTEK

An all-too-short extract from Lucrecia Dalt’s live performance of a soundtrack she composed for Werner Herzog’s Lessons of Darkness. Sparsely centred around loping layers of vocals and bass, Dalt gives images of oil slicked plains and fire-filled skies an ambiguous sense of utopian calm, further complicating Herzog’s surreally beautiful treatment of the war-ravaged Gulf. In the simplest sense, Herzog’s documentary could be seen as a quasi-apolitical view of man’s profoundly affecting footprint, which, when removed from all context, leaves only wonder; and in this sense Dalt’s wide-eyed score works.
