First trailer to Michel Gondry’s The We & The I, which has kind of been kept under wraps prior to it’s surprise unveiling on the Cannes shortlist. Set mostly in the confines of a packed school bus, the film follows a group of inner city kids on their last day of school — But what’s most noticeable here is that the tone looks wildly different to that of his past films: more sincere, more dramatic, more ensemble-based, less quirky. Let’s hope this covert unmasking and change in direction marks a good omen, as Gondry has been a director of spectacularly diminishing returns.
