‘Turning’ by Chairlift

You can now stream Chairlift’s new album Something in it’s entirety on Soundcloud. It’s a wonderfully skewed pop opus, filled with flashy hooks, vocal gymnastics and disarmingly beautiful mood pieces. Turning is the most extreme example of the latter, and shows off an uncharacteristically cloistered side to a band whose calling card is extroversion.

Caroline’s flagship voice is shrouded in reverb and layered a few times over until the effect is less singular, more textural, even approaching Elizabeth Fraser at times. It’s a perfect conceptual foil to the song’s thematic concern of shifting identities.
