‘Eighth Avenue’ by Hospitality

From what I’ve heard so far this new Merge Records signing is already making some of my favourite music of the year. Friends of Friends was an immensely endearing blithe-pop masterpiece, full of effusive, Technicolor horns and playful rhythmic pluck. ‘Eighth Avenue’ plays it more in the shade with an equally pleasant, ambling brio that sometimes spontaneously combusts because I don’t think you can bridle this much pure creative joy for too long. Pre-order their record! It’s gonna be a keeper.
