“thisMoment is an inventive new service that gives people a platform for to saving and sharing their life’s Moments. By incorporating everything people already do on the Web and on mobile devices photo- and video-sharing, blogging and social networking thisMoment allows people to easily and spontaneously capture meaningful Moments, and share them with their family and friends.” (via thismomentdotcom)

This seems like a wonderful idea - but since it has launched with a bang with high profile backing rather than iterating over time with the help of a dedicated community, I think it could be destined to be taken up avidly by mums and companies, never getting popular enough for a bunch of active users to pressure it into being great rather than good. As all irritating wankers conclude after rubbishing a new product they know hardly anything about, “I’m happy to be proved wrong.”

This Twitter-like, multimedia-minded lifestream is a good idea. Entry-specific privacy settings and archival features are a big plus, but I’m a little worried that the rich visual interface won’t be so mobile friendly. If I can’t check my friends’ streams easily on the go I don’t see myself using it much. Plus there’s the name. They should’ve picked something that doesn’t make you sing this song in your head.

I just hope this is the first step towards an autonomous lifestream á la The Whale Hunt.
