‘1979 (ft. Liz Anjos)’ by RAC

Coversong/remix factory RAC have gone and airbrushed a layer of glimmering synthpop and feminine charm onto Smashing Pumpkins’ wistful 1996 classic, and the result is far from blasphemous. It’s kind of inspired, even. The song’s central concern with bygone youth seems re-framed for the new millennium, tying together all the reflexive nostalgia we now find in ourselves, what with all the ’80s-pop aping and ’90s coveting. It also solidifies the fact that ‘Smashing Pumpkins + synth’ is pretty much M83s ultimate destination.
